How to Unlock the Costume Shop
The Deadly Days: Roadtrip costume shop lets you buy character-specific items from other heroes you’ve unlocked. Earn the “Multiple personalities” achievement, then spend duct tape on the shop’s unlock at the base workshop. Once purchased, the shop can appear during runs, opening up more ways to combine character items in your backpack.
There are three separate steps to getting access:
- Earn Multiple personalities by equipping multiple character items.
- Purchase the Costume Shop unlock with duct tape at the workshop.
- Find the shop during a run to buy an item.
The achievement alone doesn’t finish the unlock. If you’ve already received its notification, head to the workshop before starting another trip.

How to Earn Multiple Personalities
The achievement’s Early Access wording caused confusion by suggesting the items had to belong to different characters. During Early Access, duplicating a single character’s unique item also satisfied the requirement.

That gives you a Copy Shop route, plus an alternative involving a character-unlock event.
Duplicate a Character Item at the Copy Shop
The Early Access duplication route works like this:
- Start a run with a character who carries a unique item, such as the banana character.
- Keep that character item in your backpack.
- Find a Copy Shop encounter.
- Duplicate the character item and equip both copies.
This route provides a way forward if you’ve already unlocked the Astronaut and The Carver. You don’t need another character-unlock event to obtain the second item.
Choose a character with a starting character item for this attempt. The Survivor has no special starting item, so that choice won’t supply anything to duplicate for the achievement.
Combine a Starting Item With the Pumpkin Unlock
If you haven’t unlocked The Carver, you can work toward that character and the shop requirement together.
- Start with a character who already carries a character-specific item.
- Choose the Fields map in the meadow biome.
- Find and loot a Pumpkin Patch to obtain the Pumpkin item.
- Keep your starting character item and the Pumpkin in your backpack.
- Place a knife next to the Pumpkin.
- Defeat the map’s boss while keeping the required items, then extract successfully.
The Pumpkin-and-knife arrangement is part of unlocking The Carver. Carrying your original character item alongside the Pumpkin also gives you multiple character items during the attempt.
Unlocking The Carver while playing as the Survivor can leave you with the character unlocked but the shop achievement unfinished: the Survivor doesn’t bring a second character item.
Where to Find the Shop and What It Sells
After buying its workshop unlock, look for the Costume Shop during your road trips. It appears as a run encounter, similar to the regular shop and Copy Shop.

Its inventory draws from other characters you’ve already unlocked. The character you’re currently playing is excluded from its offerings.
That makes the shop useful for mixing character items into a build beyond your chosen survivor’s starting setup. Keep recruiting survivors to expand the pool of characters whose items it can offer, and inspect each purchase’s effects before rearranging your backpack around it.
Keep these two shops straight when planning your route:
- Copy Shop: duplicates an item you already have.
- Costume Shop: sells character items belonging to other unlocked heroes.
Finding a Copy Shop can help with the achievement; finding the Costume Shop lets you use the feature after purchasing its unlock.
Getting Duct Tape for the Workshop Unlock
Save duct tape for the workshop purchase once you’ve earned Multiple personalities. Version 1.0, released October 29, 2026, includes these boss-reward values:

| Boss reward condition | Duct tape |
|---|---|
| Bosses at MKing response level 3 | +1 duct tape |
| Bosses at MKing response level 5 | +2 duct tape |
| HQ end boss | Base drop of 3 |
| Reaper | Drops 1 |
Some achievements also award apples or duct tape at base in version 1.0. Collect those rewards between trips before returning to the workshop.
