Where to Find the Pumpkin Field

The Deadly Days: Roadtrip pumpkin field leads to The Carver, a survivor who fights with Pumpkin Turrets. Look for the meadow route tile showing crop fields in the foreground and a windmill in the background, then find its Pumpkin Patch. Bringing the pumpkin to the next boss with a knife beside it is the key to unlocking him.

Choose your route by the tile’s artwork. Location names are randomized, so a stop with “Fields” in its name can send you somewhere else. The crop-field-and-windmill image is the useful landmark.

Once you enter the stage, look for the “?” marker that identifies the pumpkin event. Loot the Pumpkin Patch to collect Fresh Pumpkin.

Before committing to a route, trace the connections leading to that tile. Spotting the right destination helps only if your chosen path can reach it.

How to Unlock The Carver

The unlock requires carrying the pumpkin and arranging your backpack correctly before the boss. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit the meadow field tile. Identify it by the crops and windmill rather than its randomized name.
  2. Loot the Pumpkin Patch. Follow the question-mark event marker and collect Fresh Pumpkin.
  3. Put Fresh Pumpkin in your active backpack. Its description warns that it rots and disappears when left in your stash.
  4. Place a knife next to the pumpkin. Keep both items together in the backpack.
  5. Continue to the next boss and defeat it. Arrange the pumpkin and knife before entering the boss map.

Make space for the pumpkin before advancing from the inventory screen. Leaving it in the stash while sorting your equipment can cost you the item when you move on.

Keep a knife available while traveling toward the field. If your current loadout uses other weapons, reserve enough backpack space for the knife and pumpkin together. The condition specifically calls for a knife, so use that item for the arrangement.

Recheck their positions after reorganizing your bag. Moving equipment to improve weapon synergies can also separate the two items you need for the unlock.

Why the Pumpkin Disappears or Changes Early

A missing pumpkin and a transformed pumpkin have different explanations.

If it disappears after advancing: check where you left it. Fresh Pumpkin rots in the stash; it needs to travel in your backpack. Holding onto it in the inventory interface without placing it in the active bag does not satisfy that requirement.

If it becomes a turret item before the boss dies: October 2025 Early Access builds could transform the pumpkin upon entering the boss map. That happened earlier than the unlock description suggested. Finish the boss fight rather than abandoning the attempt because the item changed.

If you keep reaching the wrong field: return to the route artwork. A location name containing “Fields” is insufficient; look for the meadow tile with crops and a windmill.

What You Get With The Carver

Version 1.0 classifies Fresh Pumpkin and The Carver's Grin as Food. Secret Sauce deactivates marked food items, so check its selectors before placing it alongside The Carver's Grin.

The Carver starts with a knife and The Carver's Grin, the item behind his Pumpkin Turrets. It throws a turret every 1.5 seconds, and each turret immediately fires a pumpkin seed. The turrets last 5 seconds.

Those turrets also work with trigger effects: triggering the item makes existing turrets fire again. Most item effects that apply to ranged weapons can benefit them, giving you ways to support their shots beyond simply spawning more pumpkins.

Build around that interaction by pairing the turrets with items that trigger them and effects that improve ranged attacks. Check each item's targeting and placement requirements as you arrange the backpack, especially when making room for additional synergies.
